Issey Miyake to open a new store in London
The Japanese fashion house is opening a second flagship in Mayfair, one of the busiest neighborhoods in the English capital
Issey Miyake to open a new flagship store on Thursday, June 7, on Brook Street in Mayfair, London, carrying multiple brands from ISSEY MIYAKE INC.
The new store will showcase the label’s Pleats Please, Homme Plissé and Bao Bao lines.
It will be only a hundred yards away from the existing one, which features the Issey Miyake men’s and women's collections.
Designed by Tokujin Yoshioka, the minimal space is spread across three floors, and will combine the spirit of ISSEY MIYAKE’s making things with modern architectural design.
It is a unique space that creates a contrast between a historic building and modern design. The space is a restored a former bank to its original structure, leaving the old beams, walls and some of the textures and contrasting them with blue dyed aluminum to create a store where history meets the future.
"My intent was to create a contrast between the old appearance of the building and the existing architectural environment, and create new aluminum panels that would express the future," explained Yoshioka.
Italy remains the main European market of the brand, ahead of Germany and France, but in the United Kingdom the importance of Issey Miyake is growing, thanks to the second opening in London and also through a wider presence in multi-brand and large department stores like Liberty and Harrods.
